Lifeline Radios to Long-Term Relief in Post-Earthquake Haiti

Lifeline Energy is delighted to announce that 1,000 Lifeline radios are en route to Haiti today, where we will implement long-term relief aid with the National Democratic Institute (NDI), International Relief and Development (IRD), and the World Association of Community Broadcasters (AMARC).

"We have identified the most effective placement of our Lifeline radios for the rebuilding effort in Haiti. They're robustly engineered for large group listening," said Lifeline Energy CEO Kristine Pearson. "Tens of thousands of people will receive vital information necessary to help them rebuild their lives. Additionally, the radios will arrive in advance of hurricane season and will serve as crucial early-warning tools."

NDI has worked in Haiti since 1997, creating a national network of 179 community action committees throughout the country, led by grassroots activists who are uniquely positioned to identify and coordinate community needs with local Haitian authorities and international aid organisations. NDI is helping these "Initiative Committees" to create citizen-run Relief Coordination Centres in areas devastated by the earthquake and those housing displaced persons.

IRD is working in centres and camps across the earthquake-affected zone, and will utilise Lifeline radios in community groups as a primary communication tool for long-term rebuilding efforts.

AMARC is working with nine Creole-language community radio stations that have identified numerous community groups in their areas. These groups will work closely with the radio stations to disseminate critical information throughout the earthquake zone.

In January, Lifeline Energy's US ambassador Tom Hanks, provided the funding to launch our Haiti Humanitarian Radio Relief Fund.
